I often get asked whether engagement sessions are necessary. After getting engaged, we sometimes get caught up in the stresses of wedding planning. You and I both know, buying the dream wedding dress, booking the best wedding venue, and choosing the perfect flowers can be very time consuming. One of the reasons we booked our wedding photographer was she offered an engagement session with her wedding package. It gave us confidence knowing we would get to know her and be comfortable in front of her camera prior to our wedding day.
Here are the reasons you should book an engagement session:
Celebrate being engaged
With our busy lives, celebrating this special milestone is often forgotten, which is why I include engagement sessions in my wedding packages. It gives couples the time to enjoy one-on-one time together, and create forever memories to show their families and future children.
Try before you buy
Wedding photography is one of the most important investments for your wedding day. If you are unsure on which photographer you would like to work with on your special day, booking an engagement session can be the perfect opportunity to “try before you buy”. Choosing a photographer that takes great photos is good, but choosing someone who you connect with personally is so much more important.
Get to know your wedding photographer
Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, and this can cause anxiety leading up to your wedding day. Once you have booked your wedding photographer, an engagement session offers you the opportunity to work with your photographer prior to your big day. I usually find couples start to relax halfway through their engagement session. It’s a lot better to get those pre-wedding jitters out of the way during an engagement session compared to the big day. Let us think of it as a practice run for the wedding day. It is so important for me to build trust and friendship with my clients. So as a wedding photographer in Townsville, this gives me the opportunity to get feedback from my clients on what works and does not work for them.
Announcements and invitations
I have never met someone who isn’t obsessed with their engagement ring. Engagement photos are the perfect way to show off that beautiful ring and new fiancé for social media announcements, save the date and wedding invitations. Your invitations are usually the first impression for your wedding day. Some of my favourite save the date cards have been included images of the couple.
Photos last a lifetime
This might sound cheesy, but the first thing I notice when entering someone’s house is the photos on their wall. When life gets busy, you sometimes forget to sit back and remember how far you have come as a couple and the milestones you have reached. Engagement photos can be a good reminder for the special memories you have celebrated as a couple. Printing and framing your engagement photos are the best visual reminder for the love you have for each other.
