BEST LOCATIONS FOR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY IN TOWNSVILLE

There are endless options for stunning locations for family photography in Townsville. Whether you are planning your annual family photos, celebrating a special occasion, or maybe getting your first family photos with your newborn or furry friend, you won’t be disappointed.

There are a few things to think about when deciding on a location for your family photos:

Type

Start with deciding whether you would like indoor or outdoor photos. Indoor photos are great for babies and younger children, as they are familiar with the environment and will have all their favourite toys to keep them entertained. Whereas outdoor photos are perfect for older children and larger families.

Style

It is important to choose somewhere that best suits your family’s personalities, as well as satisfies the vision for your photos. In Townsville, there are beaches, gardens, open fields, parks, mountains, unique cafes, indoor studios and many more. Whether you are after the outback, rustic vibes, luscious greenery, coastal views or the studio touch, there will be options for you. Your family will be the forefront of all the photos, so no matter where you chose, these special memories will be treasured for a lifetime.

Accessibility

Choosing somewhere that does not require a long drive or walk makes it a lot easier, especially with younger children. You and I both know, happy kids usually means happy photos.

Popularity

It’s best to choose a location that isn’t super busy at the time you want photos. Finding somewhere that has lots of space and fewer crowds will allow your personalities to shine. Let’s face it, no one enjoys getting photos when other people are watching.

We are spoilt for options in Townsville, so here are my favourite locations for family photos:

Cape Pallarenda

This is a fast-growing popular location for photographers in Townsville. Pallarenda is located a 15-minute drive from Townsville’s CBD and offers a beautiful beach and stunning views of Magnetic Island. It’s easily accessible for families of all ages and sizes, and is well-known for its scenic and historic beauty. If you’re after breathtaking images with that golden touch, it is best to take photos an hour before sunset. Definitely one of the best places to view golden hour in Townsville.

Palmetum

This location has endless opportunities to capture beautiful family photos. The 17 hectares of luscious greenery and abundant fauna offer a peaceful environment for parents to take their children. It is a great place to walk your fury friend, cycle, have a picnic and play games with your children. With almost 60 species of palms located in the Palmetum, this offers a stunning backdrop for your family portraits.

The Strand

The Strand is such a versatile location when it comes to photography. The Strand has the beach, rockpool, Strand park, multiple playgrounds, the pier and Jezzine Barracks, which is a short walk from the rockpool. There are panoramic views of Magnetic Island from most parts of the strand, which is a perfect backdrop for your family photos. The only downfall is, it can get quite busy at popular times, therefore I would recommend organising your photo shoot for a weekday.

Anderson Park Botanical Gardens

Townsville’s hidden gem! This is the perfect outdoor location for families of all ages and sizes. Located in Mundingburra, Anderson Park has over 20 hectares of parkland. It has a walking and cycling path throughout the park, which is great for getting lifestyle photos of the kids. It also has a large pond, which often has lots of wildlife nearby, which can make for some great images of your family interacting with the animals and nature. It’s not busy during the peak times which makes for the perfect family photography location.

Queens Gardens

We all know Townsville summers are hot and humid, which can make capturing authentic images somewhat difficult. What is great about Queens Gardens is it’s protected by large trees that shade a majority of the area. This is great for families with younger children who need to run around and burn off some energy before the photo shoot. Some of my favourite photos have been taken in Queens Garden. Conveniently location in North ward, it offers stunning views of Castle Hill, luscious greenery and manicured gardens, which is perfect for family photos.

In Home Sessions

These sessions are perfect for families with newborns or younger children. Welcoming a new baby into the family can be daunting, and the idea of leaving the house with your new addition is probably the last thing on your mind. Being in your own home allows the session to be more casual and informal, which usually results in a relaxed experience and more authentic images. Some positives about in-home sessions are bad weather will not ruin your day, and your session will be unique to you and your family.
